2-Mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT)
2-Mercaptobenzothiazole is a highly effective copper and copper alloy corrosion inhibitor used in cooling water and closed-loop water systems. It forms a stable protective film on copper surfaces by chelating with copper ions, dramatically reducing corrosion rates. MBT is often used in combination with azole-based inhibitors and phosphonate scale inhibitors in formulated water treatment programs.
