Low Molecular Weight Polyisobutylene (PIB) Thickener
Low to medium molecular weight polyisobutylene (PIB) is a highly branched, viscous polymer used as a tackifier and thickener in lubricating greases, chain oils, and adhesive lubricants. Its exceptional tackiness and film-forming properties prevent lubricant throw-off from high-speed chains, gears, and open mechanisms. PIB is also widely used as a component in compounded gear oils, two-stroke engine oil base components, and as a processing aid in rubber compounding.

Applications
- Chain oils and open gear lubricants requiring tackiness to prevent throw-off
- Adhesive lubricants and tacky spray lubricants for industrial maintenance
- Compounded gear oils and steam cylinder oils as thickening component
- Two-stroke engine oils for pre-mix and injection systems (biodegradable grades)
- Rubber compounding and sealant formulations as processing aid
Key Features
- Excellent tackiness and adhesiveness prevents lubricant fling-off from chains and open gears
- Ashless, metal-free composition does not contribute to ash or deposits in combustion applications
- Wide molecular weight range (300–2500 Da) allows precise viscosity and tackiness tuning
- Biodegradable grades available for environmentally sensitive two-stroke and chain oil applications
