Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP)

Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) is the cornerstone multifunctional additive in engine oil formulations, delivering simultaneous antiwear, extreme-pressure, and antioxidant performance. It forms a protective tribofilm on metal surfaces under boundary lubrication conditions, dramatically extending component life. Widely specified in API SN/SP, ACEA A3/B4, and OEM-approved passenger car and heavy-duty engine oil packages.

Technical Specifications

appearanceAmber to dark amber liquid
zinc content8.5–9.5 wt%
sulfur content14.0–16.0 wt%
flash point (COC)>140 °C
phosphorus content7.2–8.0 wt%
kinematic viscosity (100°C)15–25 mm²/s

Applications

  • Passenger car motor oils (PCMO) meeting API SN/SP specifications
  • Heavy-duty diesel engine oils (HDEO) for CK-4/FA-4 formulations
  • Gear oils and automatic transmission fluids requiring antiwear protection
  • Industrial hydraulic fluids needing antioxidant and antiwear performance
  • Motorcycle engine oils and racing lubricants

Key Features

  • Triple-function performance: antiwear, extreme pressure, and antioxidation in one molecule
  • Proven tribofilm formation on ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces under high-load conditions
  • Excellent thermal and hydrolytic stability for extended drain interval formulations
  • Compatible with most base oils and co-additives used in modern engine oil packages
